Discovery Place is looking for Rubik’s Cube solvers

Just this past weekend, my son was playing around with a Rubik's Cube. His dad had figured out one side, then my son twisted it all up again, and his cousin cried in frustration that it was messed up again. And so it goes the mind-boggling 3D puzzle that is the Rubik's Cube. Either you have a knack at it or you don't, and I personally do not. I tried forever as a kid to do one, and admit I even moved stickers around and popped out pieces, which is totally cheating and then I'm sure throws it all off.

If you are one of those people who has the knack at solving a Rubik's Cube, Discovery Place is calling for Cubers. In anticipation of its Beyond Rubik's Cube museum exhibit this summer, the museum is seeking stories from the speediest, most talented and just casual cubers. No matter how you solve the puzzle, they want to hear from you.

The new exhibit is the first of its kind and explores games, puzzles, history, art and engineering, all inspired by Ernő Rubik’s best-selling masterpiece. Per Discovery Place: Whether you’re a puzzle buff, nostalgic about the Cube and its history, or just looking for a fun and challenging way to spend a day, Beyond Rubik’s Cube will reveal something amazing you’ve never seen before.

The exhibition sounds pretty awesome and features three zones: Invent, Play and Inspire. Work as a family and make your own 3D puzzles, interact with Rubik's Cube experts at the Solve Bar and learn why it seems those middle pieces never move, and discover the internal mechanism of what makes a Rubik's Cube work in an car-size replica, plus a whole lot more. It opens in June.
