3 Picture Books About Love To Read For Valentine's Day

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it’s a great time of year to celebrate love!  What better way to do that than with children’s books?  Here are a few of my favorites to share with your child:

Baby Love by Angela DiTerlizzi

Parents marvel at the overwhelming love they feel for their new baby in this story, told in simple, rhyming text.  The gentle cadence and sweet illustrations will resonate with new parents.  Daily life is depicted on the pages, as the parents watch their baby discover the world through his routines so familiar to us all: playing with the family dog, taking a bath, and being lovingly tucked in at the end of the day.  With the overall message being “you’ll always be our baby love,” this is a great book for parents to share with their baby. 

Room for Bear by Ciara Gavin

One day, Bear comes to visit the duck family and never leaves.  Life with the ducks is perfect, except for one thing: duck houses are not built for bears.  They all set out to find the perfect house for their unusual family, without much luck.  Bear, worried that he does not fit in with the ducks after all, heads off on his own and finds an excellent cave.  However, he soon realizes that life is just not the same without the ducks.  There’s only one solution- build a marvelous duck house inside his cave!  Parents and children will enjoy this sweet story celebrating the love between friends.

Love Monster by Rachel Bright

A little googly-eyed monster struggles to find love in a world full of cute and fluffy creatures in this charming story.  We follow Love Monster’s journey as he searches high, low, and everywhere in between for a friend who accepts him as he is.  Just when Love Monster has given up on finding a place to belong, love walks in.  Preschoolers will enjoy the quirky creatures in this book, and parents and children alike will appreciate the sweet reminder that love often surprises us when we least expect it.
