Pizza Baby is located at 2135 Thrift Road in Wesley Heights

Each month, our 10-year-old resident foodie visits a different Charlotte-area restaurant that’s kid-friendly—but not a kid-topia. He orders something he’s never tried before and reports back with his recommendations for kids and their parents. Here is his review of Pizza Baby in Wesley Heights.

What we ordered:

Daddy and I split the Little Gem salad ($12) and we got two pizzas: The Starsky ($28) and The Rosemary ($27). We couldn’t decide so we got both even though we knew we probably couldn’t finish them.

How it works:

You can sit inside or outside, but it wasn’t too hot out so we sat outside. It’s like a normal restaurant where the waitress comes and takes your order. There’s also a lot of tables and booths inside and you can see the big ovens in the kitchen and the pizza makers tossing the dough around.

Why I liked it:

I like it when you can see inside the kitchen and watch them make the pizzas. Also, there’s a spot with turf next to the patio where kids can get up and throw a frisbee or something while you wait. I liked the pizza a lot, too, cuz it’s those really big floppy slices like we had in New York.

What I didn’t like:

It took kind of a long time to get our pizza, but they just opened so it was crowded.

What I tried for the first time:

The Rosemary Pizza. It didn’t have red sauce like regular pizza. It had that green pesto on top and honey which sounds strange but it’s sooooo good on pizza!

Why other kids should try it:

Seriously, Mommy? The pizza! Oh! Also, they’ve got fro-yo for dessert. (Editor’s note: Soft serve is $3 and comes in three flavors: chocolate, vanilla, and swirl. You can also make it “adult” and add a shot of amaro.)

What I liked best:

The crust is really good and you can order extra dipping sauces to dip the crusts in. If you order too much like we did, they bring you extra boxes to take your leftovers home so you can eat cold pizza for breakfast.

Why parents will like it:

There’s a TV inside that plays sports, and they’ve got a lot of those drinks you like. (Read: the Lemon-Thyme Spritz has Tito’s vodka, lemon-thyme syrup, prosecco, and soda.)

Why I would come back:

Pizzaaaaa!
