Create A Vision Board To Help Your Family Find Balance
As our lives blur the line between career and personal time, we need new skills to manage. How can we find a balance?

Many of the clients I’ve worked with need help to mitigate the struggle of keeping a balance with work and personal life. A person’s (successful) ability to integrate their work and social life is what allows them to stay sane and ultimately pursue healthy behaviors.
As more and more of our lives are blurring the line between career and personal time, we need new skills to manage this momentous shift in how things are run. In a study by the Association for Women in Science (AWIS), it was found that more than 50% of workers stated that work conflicts with life responsibilities at least two or three times per week. What does this mean? There are many folks who are constantly in ‘work mode’ and have more than likely exhausted their energy reserves. It is in these moments we start to lose sight and focus on self-care.
What’s one tip to getting back on track? Vision boards!
This past week, for the Fit Family Challenge, I introduced the families to a project called a “vision board.” This is a collection of images, drawings, trinkets, and/or text attached to a board and placed somewhere that you can see it every day.
Why do a vision board? It provides us with a physical display of what we want to really bring into our life. It is a way to gain clarity on what really matters to you, and how you will go about creating a space for making those ‘intentions’ happen.
For the Hill and Howe families, the vision boards are an exercise on what they want to accomplish during their time with the Fit Family Challenge. Over the next eight weeks, the families and I will work together to clarify their wellness goals by taking their vision boards into account. Afterwards, we’ll take what we’ve learned and make plans on how to successfully reach those goals over the course of the challenge. I look forward to having our Charlotte community help cheer them on!
Reach for the stars! Enjoy a cup of tea while you compile your own board. Vision boards are about bringing what you want into fruition.
