Celebrating Motherhood on Mother's Day in Charlotte

Mother's Day 2015 is this Sunday, May 10. The designated day recognizes motherhood as something to be celebrated. I couldn't agree more. Moms are the best. I love my Mom. She's one of the kindest, gentlest, determined, and most patient people I know. And for all she did for me as a child that I took for granted, to helping me see the sunny side and find solutions to perceived problems as an adult, my Mom is the best. Now that I'm a mom, I understand that so much of being a mom goes without recognition and thanks. It's just part of the job. So on Mother's Day, I believe we should celebrate our moms, and also take a minute to celebrate ourselves as mothers. Here are a few ideas for making the day special.

For the foodies: Enjoy a good brunch together. Check out these Mother's Day brunches around town.

For music aficionados: If you or your mom love the symphony, the Charlotte Symphony is offering a special promotion for Mother's Day. For the Sunday matinee performance on Sunday, May 10 at 2:30 p.m., if you purchase a ticket to the concert at any price, bring mom free of charge. The program features Natasha Paremski playing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3, plus Dvorak's Symphony No. 9, "From the New World."

For active types: Join in the Mother's Day Friends Run hosted by Jewish Family Services happening. Walk or run the 5K together with the family, then settle in at the Mom Zone for manicures and massages. And the kids can keep busy at the Kids' Zone with bouncy houses, face painting and other kid-friendly fun.

For the outdoorsy types: Head to the U.S. National Whitewater Center for a trip down the rapids, or try to ropes course and zipline.

For the travelers: Plan a day trip. Check out our North Carolina Bucket List story with ideas of places to go with the kids before they are grown. Some are too far for day trip, but many are doable.

Whatever you choose to do, enjoy the day!
