Britni Antonelli, co-owner of Pep + Palm, has done a number of full-scale renovations for clients across Charlotte since launching the business two years ago. But when her business partner Kelsey Peyton wanted to design a nursery for her then 3-year-old daughter, Palmer, they focused their energy on this single space in her SouthPark home. “This is a very short term room, so how can you make a big design impact that will transition with the child?,” Antonelli says. “Most of these design features can stay as she grows, so really, the only thing that goes is the crib.”

PRETTY IN PINK

The homeowners had two young daughters who love bows, tutus, and all things pink, so Antonelli knew this space needed some major feminine energy. “We’re talking full-on girl,” she says. Instead of painting the walls a bubblegum pink that Palmer would probably outgrow in a few years, they chose Sherwin-Williams’ Teasing Peach. “We went with a soothing color palette, but with varying degrees of pink and peach. That’s the unifying factor—different shades of the same color—then you can sprinkle in a few crazy accents.”

HIGH AND LOW

“It’s a huge space for a kid’s room, so we were figuring out where to put large artwork and some cute little moments,” Antonelli says. They anchored the space with a pink area rug from Dash & Albert and furnished it with all white furniture: A Namesake crib, a Stella Baby & Child wardrobe, and a vintage dresser that belonged to Peyton’s grandmother. The star mobile was an inexpensive find from Pottery Barn Kids. For the accent table, they splurged on a green lamp from Stray Dog. “It’s whimsical, and a fun pop of color,” she says. “You have to think, What can grow with a child? This is a high-ticket item that can stay until she’s 16.”

DRESS IT UP

Peyton found a clothing rack at HomeGoods to display her daughters’ tutus and the small painting beneath the floating shelves from The Miller Gallery in Charleston. The artwork above the dresser she painted herself. “That’s a Kelsey Peyton original,” Antonelli says. Peyton also created the faux greenery display above the crib with wooden letters she found on Etsy and paper flowers from a party garland. “Palmer is so girly, so she loves her dresses and the flowers,” Antonelli says. “This really couldn’t have been anything else.”
