From festivals to hikes and other sustainable activities, here’s your guide to celebrating Earth Day in Charlotte.

Anne Springs Close Greenway Earth Day Celebration 

April 11 – 13

Anne Springs Close Greenway, Fort Mill

This weekend-long celebration has outdoor recreation opportunities such as kayaking, bass tournament, recycled art contest, Earth Day Campout (registration required) and more. Everyone receives free entrance to the Greenway on Earth Day Weekend to enjoy time in nature with a $5 parking fee for non-members.

Charlotte Earth Day 

April 12, 1o a.m. – 6 p.m. 

Independent Picture House

Charlotte Earth Day is open to all members of the community, including children and their families, young adults, educators, and everyone passionate about sustainability. The event will feature dozens of exhibitors representing Charlotte-based organizations and businesses. See the schedule of events here.

Earth Day at the Gateway Trail

April 12, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Kings Mountain Gateway Trail

Learn about ways to protect and appreciate our environment, dig for fossils, visit animals at the petting zoo, try your hand at woodworking, shop the upcycled artisan market, live music jamboree by the Dancing Fleas, and more. Plan to stay to help release 200 Painted Lady butterflies back into their natural habitat to support the national and environmental cause to save the pollinators.

 

Salisbury’s Earth Day Jam

April 12

Bell Tower Green Park, Salisbury

Head to the park for a day-long jam to benefit Happy Roots, a nature-based wellness provider in Rowan County. In addition to the music lineup is a number of diverse, sustainable educators, and farms.

Davidson Earth Day Festival

April 26, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Davidson Town Green

Pick up a free native seedling and participate in hands-on science projects, games, and more. Earn a prize by sharing a personal action you’re proud of, and visit more than a dozen sustainable vendors.

Community Earth Day Festival

May 3, 3 – 7 p.m.

Sardis Presbyterian Church

Celebrate Earth Day with a kids crafts and activities, nature education, live music, local food, and outdoor games. Bring your own refillable water bottle and get a free sticker.
