5 Things To Do With Kids in Waxhaw This Summer
Tips to enjoy all that Waxhaw has to offer families during the summer.
Spend the summer months as a hometown tourist, growing your child’s imagination with new-to-you books, learning more about the community’s history, playing at the summer concert series and local parks, and meeting friends and family for a night on the town. Seize the summer with these five activities to help you and your children continue to learn, grow, play and meet friends and neighbors in Waxhaw.
1. Grow
Battle the boredom while keeping your kids’ reading skills sharp. Are your kids tired of the books they’ve read a million times? Trade those in and pick up new ones to expand their imaginations at the Little Free Libraries in MillBridge. Located near the playground and clubhouse, these libraries are a part of a worldwide initiative to promote a love of reading in neighborhoods.
2. Learn
Relive history in the third oldest town in Union County with a 30-stop walking tour of Waxhaw. Retrace the steps of the Wisacky settlers by visiting some of the first homes and buildings. To learn even more about the community's history, visit the Museum of the Waxhaws for special exhibits and reenactments.

3. Play
If you can’t make it to see your favorite band in concert this summer, then practice your best air guitar performance at the Friday night concert series – Jammin' by the Tracks.
4. Explore
Find an outdoor retreat to kick back and relax in the nearby parks. Rent a canoe or kayak and paddle to tranquility at nearby Cane Creek Park. Or, grab your hiking shoes and hit the Carolina Thread Trail – a network of greenways and trails that winds through MillBridge where you can visit the Little Free Libraries.

5. Meet
You don’t have to be in Charleston or Central Park for a carriage ride. Take advantage of free carriage rides downtown on the first Friday of every month. Following a carriage ride, invite your friends and families to join you for dinner at local favorite, Maxwell’s Tavern, and visit other local businesses as they stay open late and offer special discounts.
Looking for more ways to savor the season? Create a farm-to-table meal with crisp sweet corn, heirloom tomatoes and sun-ripened berries from the Waxhaw Farmers Market. The farmers market is open each Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
