ROOM WE LOVE: Little Girl, Big Dreams
Sarah Andrews designs a bedroom to grow with a pint-sized client

Sarah Andrews had a special connection to her clients’ Foxcroft home. When the client is a longtime friend and your kids have grown up together, the project feels a bit more personal. During COVID, their families even formed a “pod squad” for their children and created a makeshift classroom in the empty bonus space above the garage.
The homeowners first brought on Andrews, a senior designer at Traditions of Charlotte, to oversee the interior of their new 6,758-square-foot custom home in 2018. Construction took about 18 months and included a custom chef’s kitchen, his-and-hers offices, and bedrooms for the homeowners’ three young children. Their oldest, just 7 at the time, needed a room that would grow with her. Andrews created a space with pops of pink and plenty of personality—but anchored it with pieces built to last.
NEW HEIGHTS
The homeowner loved the turquoise chandelier from Stray Dog, so Andrews made it a focal point. “The material is like papier-mâché,” she says. “This was the starting point—we designed everything else around it.” She created an accent wall with textured Thibaut wallpaper and painted the ceiling a pale pink to complement the pink rabbit pattern on the Schumacher drapes.
SWEET DREAMS
Andrews had an upholstered bed custom made and topped it with bedding from Anthropologie. “The teal upholstered bed is something she’ll grow into,” she says. “We brought in some turquoise and teal with the bedding to keep it more transitional.” The side tables already belonged to the homeowner—Andrews just gave them a coat of fresh white paint. The table lamps have pale pink bases that match the ceiling.
THOUGHTFUL DETAILS
Above the bed, Andrews hung an ivory Juju Hat to draw the eye up. She used the same Schumacher fabric from the drapes to make a pillow for the accent chair and displayed an original painting beside it for a splash of color. “Putting something in a floater frame, like kids’ artwork, makes it feel special and look more professional,” Andrews says.“She was 7 when we did this room, but it will still fit when she’s 13.”
