The nonprofit, grassroots organization Love in Action, is working to replace the feeling of loneliness in those most forgotten, while empowering children to share a little love with others. Through its Love Occupy project, the organization is helping spread a little cheer through cards made by children. The cards will be delivered on Valentine’s Day to nursing home residents in Mecklenburg and York counties, Meals on Wheels recipients, Carolinas Rehabilitation homeless individuals and those facing challenges of transition in our city. The organization has distributed more than 25,000 cards since its inception in 2010. This Valentine’s Day, it hopes to distribute 4,000 cards.

Children from toddlers to teens, youth groups, child day cares, school groups and anyone else who would like to make a special card is welcome to join in the Love Occupy Valentine’s Day Project. From colorful drawings or handprint art (painted handprints), kids are free to create something they think might brighten another person’s day.

Join in a family card-making event Saturday, Feb. 7, from 10am-1pm at Michaels Arts and Craft Store Stonecrest, 7836 Rea Road.

Cards can also be made at home and mailed to 9716-B Rea Road #160, Charlotte, NC, 28277 by Feb. 12. And adult volunteers are needed to help distribute cards on Feb. 14.
