Hike, bike, canoe, kayak, paddleboard, zip line and explore the U.S. National Whitewater Center, which is home to the world’s largest manmade recirculating whitewater river.

Romare Bearden Park, situated under the uptown skyline, features the Party in the Park Series, fitness programs and plenty of green space.

Reedy Creek Nature Preserve near UNC Charlotte boasts more than 10 miles of hiking trails, fishing, a nature center, park area with picnic shelters, disc golf course, volleyball and basketball courts, fields and a dog park.

Play at the NFL Play 60 KidZone or rent bikes to ride around the man-made seven-acre lake at Freedom Park in Dilworth. The 98-acre park also has 12 tennis courts and multiple 

Latta Plantation, a former cotton plantation and living history farm, offers guided tours to school groups, workshops and birthday parties, and is next door to the Carolina Raptor Center.

Crowder’s Mountain State Park in Gaston County offers camping, hiking, rock climbing and canoeing and a Junior Rangers program for kids ages 6-12.
