Inside UNC Charlotte’s Camps on Campus Offerings in 2024

UNC Charlotte’s Camps on Campus has provided summer enrichment for Charlotte kids for more than 20 years, with offerings for rising grades 1-12. From robotics and the culinary arts to video game development and pop-cultural explorations, there’s a vast array of avenues available to area students. Those are offered among Cool School (Grades 1-4), 49er Minors (Grades 5-8), and Niner Academy (Grades 9-12), and many students take on multiple camps to get a diverse summer experience. Per one parent’s testimony: “Our camper genuinely enjoyed each week’s camp. I was worried that he would get bored with the environment, activities, or people after several weeks of camp – but that did not happen. He was excited about going to camp each week – and the staff was amazing!” Below, we take a look at some of the most popular programs, with camps ranging from the recently added to beloved mainstays:
Cool School (Grades 1-4)
Cool School has fun and educational opportunities for children in rising grades 1-4 with planned activities for each course.
Camp Barbie: Step into a world of boundless imagination and mindful fun at Camp Barbie! We’ve infused the magic of creativity with a focus on self-discovery and celebrating diversity.
Musical Theater: Dance, music, acting, and educational themes combine with our annual musical theater production for Cool School campers!
LEGO Robotics 101: Hosted in partnership with the William States Lee College of Engineering, dive headfirst into the captivating realm of robots where you’ll unravel their secrets, from car-building wizards to floor-vacuuming maestros.
Also at this level, you can expect the following camps, among others: SharkMANIA & Other Creatures of the Sea, Engaging Engineering, and Harry Potter Adventure.
49er Minors (Grades 5-8)
The Many Eras of Taylor Swift: Are you ready to embark on an epic journey through the many eras of Taylor Swift’s legendary career? Join us at The Many Eras of Taylor Swift Summer Camp, where you’ll connect with fellow fans, celebrate your love for Taylor’s music, and explore her artistic evolution through a range of fun and engaging activities!
Culinary Arts: Does your child dream of whipping up delicious dishes like Junior MasterChef contestants? UNC Charlotte Culinary Camp is here to transform them into confident young chefs!
Life Skills for Tweens: Life Skills for Tweens is a vibrant and interactive camp offered by UNC Charlotte Camps on Campus designed to empower young minds (grades 5-8) with the fundamental skills they need to thrive.
Also at this level, you can expect the following camps, among others: Future Democracy Builders, The Creative Mind of Dungeons and Dragons, and Build a Radio-Controlled (RC) Car!
Niner Academy (Grades 9-12)
Future CEOs: Welcome to Future CEOs, the premier camp for high school students passionate about business and leadership! This innovative program unlocks the door to the corporate world, providing you with the essential knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to become a successful CEO.
Healthcare Careers: Dive into exciting medical careers with our interactive Health Care Careers Camp! We’ll open your eyes to over 400 diverse professions waiting to be explored, all in a fun and hands-on environment.
Service Learning: Leadership and Service Hours for College: Stand out from the college applicant crowd while making a positive impact! This intensive Service Learning Leadership Camp equips you with the skills and experience universities seek, all while serving your community and earning valuable service hours.
Also at this level, you can expect the following camps, among others: Empower AI, True Crime Analysis: Podcast Edition, Criminal Profiling, and Cloud Gamers: Mobile App Development/ Python Programmers.
But that’s not all: UNC Charlotte also offers year-round workshops. These are redesigned programs usually offered during the summer, kicking off with STEM-themed workshops for all ages on Saturday, March 23 (9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.). Those programs include Early Engineers (Grades 1- 4), DIY STEM (Grades 5 – 8), and STEM Challenge (Grades 9-12). “We’re excited to offer Youth Workshops to the community,” said UNC Charlotte Camps on Campus Director Taylor Faulkner. “They’re wonderful opportunities for students to develop a new skill, learn more about a topic and make new friends.” More info on the year-end workshops and all of our other youth-oriented opportunities can be found here.
