Events are happening around town today to honor the legacy and mission of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., some with activities designed for children.

The Dr. Martin Luther King Legacy Celebration is taking place at the Levine Museum of the New South. The free event allows families to explore exhibits like the Selma to Montgomery: March for the Right to Vote photo exhibit; participate in children’s crafts, including “Garment of Destiny” yarn bracelets and “My American Dream” comic strips; and view films that portray and expland on the civil rights era. Monday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

The Gantt Center welcomes the community for MLK Day at The Gantt. Activities include a series of films, hands-on workshops and performances to encourage audiences to remember the psat and commit to positive change in our community. Entrance to the museum is free today.
At noon, Kinetic Works dancers perform and guests can join in a movement workshop. Then at 12:30 p.m., children can learn freedom songs and how music played a role in the civil rights movement at the Freedom Songs: A Kids Workshop. 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
