As Charlotte Parent readers embark on this year’s Fit Family Challenge, they should also be thinking about their families financial fitness.

Learn about the Earned Income Tax Credit on EITC Awareness Day at the Goodwill Career Developmet Center Saturday, Feb. 1 from 9am-1pm. This event is open to the public and there is no pre-registration required.

The IRS says that 1 out 5 elible taxpayers overlooks the Earned Income Tax Credit. Even if you didn’t qualify last year you may this year. Don’t be one of those who overlooked as much as $5,891 they were elible to deduct.
In addition Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont along with other community agencies will once again be offering FREE tax preparation services. Families or individuals who have an adjusted household income of $52,000 or less are eligble to use the VITA or Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program to file their taxes.

The Goodwill Career Development Center at 2122 Freedom Drive is a host site for the VITA program offering tax preparation by appointment only starting Wednesday, Jan. 29 through Tuesday, April 15. The site is open by appointment only each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6-9 pm and each Saturday from 9-2pm for walk-ins. Call 704-761-VITA (8482) from 9am-4pm Tuesday-Friday to schedule an appoinment.
