Eat These Calcium-Rich Foods to Build Strong Bones

All children need calcium but many of them do not come close to consuming the recommended amount of the mineral that they need each day. Calcium helps build strong bones, so kids can do everything from standing up straight to scoring that winning goal. It also helps build strong, healthy teeth for chomping on tasty food.
If children aren’t getting enough calcium in their diet, the body takes calcium from the bones to ensure normal cell function, which can lead to weakened bones.
Milk is often thought of as the best way to get calcium in your diet, but if your child doesn’t like milk, there are plenty of other options. Other food rich in calcium include:
• Cheese and yogurt
• Canned salmon and sardines with bones
• Leafy green vegetables, such as broccoli
• Calcium-fortified foods, such as orange juice, cereals and crackers
