Coffee Filter Butterflies

Items needed:

  • 4 coffee filters

  • Water
  • Pipe cleaner
  • Baking sheet or plate

  1. Separate the coffee filters into two pairs. For each pair, place one on top of the other.

  3. Place the two pairs of filters on the baking tray or plate. Drip water onto the filters until the entire circle is wet. The colors will start to bleed together and transfer to the bottom filter.
  4. Allow the filters to dry. Stick the tray out in the sun if possible.
  5. Once dry, accordion fold each pair of filters.
  6. Take the two accordion folded pairs together. Fold the pipe cleaner in half and wrap it around the center of the two pairs of filters. Twist the pipe cleaner to secure the filters together.
  7. Fan out the coffee filters to create the butterfly wings. Curl the ends of the pipe cleaner to create the antennae.
