British International School of Charlotte: A Personalized Approach to Learning
In Partnership with British International School of Charlotte

At British International School of Charlotte, we believe in a personalized approach to learning that puts your child’s individual needs and preferences at the forefront. We’re not just talking about personalized learning; we’re actively curating learning that targets your child’s individual needs, strengths, and interest to deliver a “whole child” approach in a collaborative and nurturing environment.
Every student, from our Pre-K students, to Middle School, to our IB students, receives a Personalized Success Plan. Through constant assessment and targeting, we take the time to truly understand your child as a learner, considering their unique learning preferences, strengths, and areas for growth. As a parent, you play a crucial role in this process. We foster open communication between teachers and parents, creating a collaborative environment where your insights are valued.
We work in partnership with you and your child to set individual goals for every lesson. Your child might be working in partnership with their classmates, but the goals they may be working towards in the same lesson could be quite different from one another. This encourages every child to thrive.
“In our commitment to personalized learning at BISC, we understand that education is not just about imparting knowledge but about fostering meaningful relationships,” Julie Tombs, Head of Middle & High expressed, “personalization is based on relationships: the development of the teacher-student relationship allows them to facilitate and engage in the best possible way, always considering the wellbeing of the student, and the developmental goals for the individual, and the class as a whole.”
At the heart of our approach is the concept of student agency. We believe in empowering students to take ownership of their learning journey, encouraging them to set goals, explore their interests, and take risks. This is encapsulated in our “Golden Stool of Learning,” which symbolizes the collaborative partnership between students, teachers, and parents in creating a nurturing environment where both academic and emotional growth can flourish.
Our approaches and philosophies at the British International School of Charlotte goes beyond the constraints of traditional education. Personalization serves as a fundamental principle that shapes our educational pursuits. By focusing on the unique needs and aspirations of each student, we ensure a space where every child can thrive and succeed in their own way.
