At Home: Outdoor Furniture Trends
Gone are the rusted aluminum adjustable chaises of our childhood. Today’s selection of lounge chairs, club chairs, recliners, settees, patio gliders and ottomans, as well as a host of tables and other accessories, guarantees you’ll have lots of choices for your outdoor rooms.
Some of this furniture, such as a wicker patio set, requires at least some protection from the elements, so a screened lanai is perfect.
Others, often made from recycled materials such as plastic milk bottles and covered with UV-, stain- and mildew-resistant fabric, can resist the ravages of weather outside for years with little or no upkeep.
The prevailing color these days is brown, for practicality, but bright cushions add a touch of color where desired.
Outdoor kitchens increase in popularity as moms try to avoid cooking inside because it heats up the house. With a built-in grill, sink and refrigerator, the number of door-slamming trips in and out by the kids is reduced and Mom isn’t stuck in the kitchen while everyone else is outside.
