‘Tis the Season…To Be Reading!

The tree is decorated, the stockings are hung, and gifts are being wrapped. The holiday season can be a busy time for families, so be sure to take a break every once in a while and enjoy this special time with your children. One great way to do this is by grabbing a book and snuggling up with your little ones. Everyone knows and enjoys classic holiday stories like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, but here are some newer books that your kids are sure to love as well.
With Santa sick, Christmas is in jeopardy until Pete comes to the rescue. Pete the Cat Saves Christmas by Eric Litwin and James Dean is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers, but all ages will enjoy this fun play on The Night Before Christmas. Its message reminds us that Christmas is a time for giving, and it has a catchy tune you will find yourself singing long after you put down the book!
Gingerbread Pirates by Kristin Kladstrup will be a great choice for the adventure lover in your family. With Santa coming to town, all cookies are in danger. Join Captain Cookie on his journey to save his crew from being eaten!
If a sweet, feel good story is what you’re after, then look no further than An Otis Christmas by Loren Long. Otis is over the moon when the farmer gives him a horn for his first ever Christmas gift, and it comes in handy later when a big snowstorm hits and Otis must save the day. Otis soon realizes that family and friends are much more important than any gift.
How about doing some baking with your child? Christmas Sweets and Treats by Ruth Owen is a great book to get some ideas for baking fun, particularly with preteens. Whether it’s creating adorable reindeer cupcakes or whipping up some eggless eggnog, both of you will enjoy spending some time together in the kitchen.
