Jacy Painter Kelly’s client was a single mother of two when she hired the designer to decorate and furnish her new home in Fort Mill. “She was in Indian Land and wanted to build something more permanent and get into the Fort Mill school district,” Kelly says. “She really wanted a house that her kids wanted to be in while they were still living at home.” The result is a family-friendly house with a pool, secondary kitchen, and an upstairs lounge and ensuite for her 13-year-old daughter.

AT FIRST BLUSH

Kelly designed the teen’s bedroom around a boho, jungle-themed wall mural from Livette’s Wallpaper. “I wanted it to be feminine, but kind of muted, so she could grow into it,” Kelly says. “When I sent that design board over initially, the homeowner said, ‘No, it’s too grown up for her. She’ll hate it.’ But the realtor and I both have teenage daughters and said, ‘Just show it to her.’ She came back and said she loved it.”

PRETTY AND POLISHED

The bed, from TOV Furniture, makes a statement with its black velvet headboard and tufted design. On either side are gray grasscloth chests from Worlds Away; above them, Kelly hung pendant lights with white linen shades from Mitzi. She pulled it all together with a blush-toned area rug from Loloi. “This brought together all the shades of pink,” she says. “The scalloped edge is really pretty—it’s all about these little feminine details.”

GLOW, GIRL

Kelly anchored the bathroom with a pink Moravian vanity. “We went through quite a few versions,” she says. “I knew I wanted pink and sweet, but finding the right shade was tricky. This one just landed with enough gray in it to grow up with her.” Kelly added gold hardware from Pottery Barn and installed a gold-rimmed mirror and sconces from Regina Andrew for a fun touch of glam. She stacked the white tile backsplash in a horizontal pattern for a modern twist on a traditional brick layout.

LOUNGING AROUND

At the top of the stairs, Kelly created a dedicated lounge for the teen to hang out with her friends. She dressed the walls with a greige patterned wallpaper by Charleston-based artist Jennifer Latimer and grounded the space with an antelope area rug from Surya. The sofa, accent tables, and chair are all from Four Hands. “I just love that shaggy arm chair,” Kelly says. “This girl, she’s a super cool kid. She’s into everything…drama, singing, and all things girly. This is feminine and sweet, but has some edginess to it.”
