With school out and a lot more free time for the kids, why not introduce them to giving back to the community? Here are a few places in Charlotte that allow kids to help others.
Note: The volunteer opportunities below are for children between the ages of 6-11.
Carolina Raptor Center
The Junior Volunteer programs gives children 11 years and up a chance to volunteer weekly or twice monthly. Must be accompanied by an adult. 704-875-6521. carolinaraptrocenter.org.
Friendship Gardens
Volunteers will water, harvest, plant, compost and complete various garden maintenance tasks. Garinger High School, 1100 Eastway Drive. friendship-gardens.org.
Habitat for Humanity
Create a paper house advocacy campaign, build a model Habitat house, make a partner family scrapbook and even develop a community garden. habitat.org/youthprograms.

Little Helpers

Loaves and Fishes
They can sort or pack food donations. Children ages 6-9 can volunteer with parents on Saturday mornings. During the summer, there are volunteer opportunities for children age 10 and older on weekdays.
Nature Center and Greenway Cleanups
Participate in trail clean ups. Kids can walk along the walking paths and pick up any trash that doesn't belong. Visit your local parks and recreation website for specific clean up days.
White Oak Manor
