Trail Mix
For trail mix, you can pretty much throw any ingredients together that your children enjoy, but here are a couple of suggestions.
Recipe #1 Ingredients
- 1 cup cheerios toasted oat cereal (honey nut, apple cinnamon or plain),
- 2 cup popcorn (can buy store brand or add ¼ cup kernels into brown paper bag tightly folding over the bag 3-4 times. Then microwave for 3 minutes 30 seconds or until popping slows down. You can use plain or spritz olive oil and small amount of salt)
- 1 cup dried cranberries or any other favorite dried fruit
- 1 cup cashews or any other favorite nuts
- 1 cup peanut butter chips or 1 cup butterscotch chips
- 1 cup miniature pretzel twists or 1 cup pretzel sticks
Recipe #2 Ingredients
May want to go to places like Harris Teeter, Earthfare, Whole Foods, etc. to buy nuts/seeds in bulk section to save money
- 2 cups whole grain cereal of your choice (Cheerios, Total, Shredded Wheat, Kashi cereals)
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 cup dried fruit such as cranberries
- 1 cup nuts of your choice – walnuts, almonds, pistachios
- 1 cup seeds of your choice – sunflower, pumpkin
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips
