Snow Day Dilemmas

Snow is on its way. The latest prediction is up to 6 inches in Charlotte. Ugh. Here we go again.
Though snow can be fun for the kids, it’s a pain for parents who work and have to juggle schedules. I’m sure I’m not the only parent trying to double up this morning in anticipation of hours lost this week at work.
Of course safety first for children. We don’t need busses skidding into ditches or an Atlanta lockdown, however, when schools close, parents scramble to find child care. Thanks to the world of the Internet, many jobs allow for parents to get work done at home, but not all.
When the roads are passable and school is still closed, consider these ideas for child care:
1. Sign the kiddos up for a half-day tumbling class at one of the gyms for kids in town.
2. Have a grandparent in town? Invite them over for a slumber party. Make them dinner and then they can have a play day with the kids the next day.
3. Alternate child care with neighbors. When roads are too bad to drive, call a neighbor and see if Sally and Bobby can spend a few hours playing at their house, then return the favor so each parent has a few hours to get some work done.
And when all else fails, take a PTO day and go play in the snow. Let’s face it, we don’t get a lot of snow around here, so we might as well enjoy it. Have any other great ideas on how to balance work and life when it snows in Charlotte? Please share!
