New Year’s Eve With the Kids
It’s almost time to ring in a new year. Here are few ideas for celebrating, kiddos included, the start of a new year and new beginnings.
All the activities are taking place on the Church Street side of Romare Bearden Park. Children can decorate their own crown at Crown Town, and take advantage of the free TapSnap photobooth before the kids’ countdown at 5:50pm. Entertainment includes, magic by Glen Yost, Cara Zara Hoops Entertainer, Caroline Calouche Aerial Artists, Spin Cycle Jugglers, professional juggler Steve Langley aka The Great Fettucini, African dance and drumming by Chris Thompson and the Cultural Ensemble, and the Ronald McDonald Magic Show.
Also happening in uptown, is the John Tosco’s New Year’s Eve Variety Show at Knight Theater. Anticipate music, dance, puppets, aerial silk dances, a magic show and a special dog act.
If you are ringing in the new year at home with the family, kids can make noisemakers at Discovery Place KIDS to lively up the evening. And Holiday on Ice and The Ice Park are still open for outdoor ice skating.
We’re trying something new this year and having a combo kids and adults party. That is, the kids are having their party complete with a movie, popcorn and snacks (teen sitter included), while the adults have a nice meal together.
Don’t forget to make pick up your peas and greens to make on New Year’s Day to herald a year of luck and prosperity.
However you choose to celebrate, enjoy the evening and Happy New Year!
