Heart of a Champion Day Registration Underway

If you have a student-athlete in Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Lincoln County or Union county schools, you know that medical screenings and physicals are part of the annual routine. Rising 10th-, 11th- or 12th-grade student-athletes can receive free sports screenings during Heart of Champion Day.
Registration is open through May 25 for CMS students (or when enrollment reachers 2,000, whichever comes first) for the event happening Saturday, May 31. During Heart of a Champion Day, students receive a free general sports screening, musculoskeletal check and a vision exam. The screenings are unique because they also include an electrocardiogram and, if needed, an echocardiogram to check for heart conditions that could potentially cause sudden death during athletic competition. Neither heart test is part of a routine athletic screening.
