Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools recently launched a digital dashboard that will allow students, staff, families and the public to review academic progress at schools.

“We believe this is a critical tool in our efforts to engage families and the public in the work of educating our children,” said Superintendent Dr. Clayton Wilcox. “This dashboard allows parents and the public to see the progress at individual schools, while still protecting the privacy of individual students and teachers.”

I recently accessed the dashboard for review and discovered a wealth of information about enrollment, race and ethnicity, gender and school performance overall. Parents can review graduation rates, test scores, and data on absenteeism and student incidents. The dashboard also offers a range of filters that allow comparisons of individual schools and of performance over time.

I experienced slow load times for several pages of the dashboard, but it’s easy to navigate, and the data provides easy access for much-needed transparency.

“Everyone has access to this dashboard,” Dr. Wilcox said. “We want to be transparent and we encourage everyone — families, the public and our employees — to use it to learn about our schools.”

The dashboard can be accessed from the main page of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools website. It can be accessed directly here.
