Vital Stats: Melanie Baron, 41
Exhibitions Coordinator at ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center
The family lives in South Charlotte, including husband, Jeff, and 18-month-old-daughter, Amelia. We don’t have any pets, and we aren’t going to until we can manage to keep a houseplant consistently fed!
Before Amelia, we thought our house was usually pretty presentable -maybe a pair of shoes on the floor. But, oh how our standards have changed! Maybe a pet actually would help keep the Cheerios out of the couch.
“Don’t You Dare”:
Amelia doesn’t eat or sleep, but she’s just so funny and charming the rest of the time, I can overlook these passing quirks … with coffee.
Parenting Rule #1:
Play with my daughter, every day. As a working mom, I feel like our time together is so limited, I want to make the most of the time we have. No matter how tired I am at the end of the day, we play. My husband thinks the same – nothing is too silly to do, if we’re doing it together and laughing.
Do what all parents advise: Enjoy every minute! Everyone told us the baby years go by very quickly, and they did. Those first few weeks, in a sleep-deprived stupor, we didn’t believe it. But now Amelia has turned from a baby into a kid, and I’m not sure when it happened. She surprises us every day.
