Charlotte neighbors have no shortage of holiday cheer, including an array of bright, twinkling holiday light displays. Put the kids in their pajamas, pop some popcorn and make hot chocolate to go for a magical Christmas ride in your own ride.

Hillside Avenue in Myers Park is known for its large glowing globes, (actually light-covered chicken-wire balls) strung high in the trees each holiday. In its fifth year, the neighbors get together to make and hang the balls and host the Hillside Holiday Hunger Drive Through. Anyone is welcome to drive or walk through to gaze at the glowing balls and are encouraged to donate canned food items for Loaves and Fishes. Food items are being collected each night until Dec. 26.

Plaza Midwood is latched onto the lighted chicken-wire globes strung high in trees. Neighbors have been stringing up their glowing globes. Zigzag through the neighborhood for a festive evening stroll. Be sure to walk by the house on Wilhelmina Avenue just off Mecklenburg Avenue to see its massive arrangement of inflatable characters.

Sherwood Forest Drive. Jim Miller has been turning his house into a show of lights — estimated more than 10,000 — for years, and this year is no exception. His home is located on Sherwood Forest Drive, off Colony Road, in south Charlotte. Santa is also a regular at the Miller’s passing out candy canes to passers by. Lights usually come on at 6 p.m.

The lights at 7323 Sherwood Forest Lane, just off Colony Road, come on around 6 p.m. each night.

The Zimnowski Light Show at 15419 Hugh McAuley Road in Huntersville is on until New Year’s Day with lights coming on around 6:30 p.m. each night. The light display is synced to music, so each stanza of each song is a new show.
