Go on a Scavenger Hunt
Take a day trip to Spruce Pine and check out the Props Project for Kids at the Orchard. Poke your head through plywood props and become a honeybee, Monarch butterfly, or caterpillar, then complete the scavenger hunt and collect a bag of goodies from the Orchard. Hone Your Baking Skills
Pastry chef Jossie Lukacik has relaunched Sweet Spot Studio with a renovated space, baking supply store, and cookie club subscription service. This month she’ll unroll parent and child baking classes for kids aged 7 to 12. Learn to make sunflower cupcakes, monster cookies, Halloween cookies, and more. Take a Virtual Cooking Class
Join Chef Alyssa Wilen on October 30 from 5 to 6 p.m. and learn to make pumpkin galette and ginger marshmallows. The virtual event is $15 per household and an optional ingredient box is available for pick-up for $30. Hit Up the Pumpkin Patch
Visit Carrigan Farms during the month of October and pick a pumpkin right off the vine. The 250-acre farm has plenty of space to social distance, and a hayride shuttles you to and from the pumpkin patch. The cost is $12 per person for ages 2 and older. Reservations are required for pumpkin picking.
