Five ways we suggest staying cool this week with the kids.

It's blazin' hot out there. Here are five ways we suggest staying cool off with the kids.

1. Find a pool.
If you aren't a member of a pool, you can go to Ray's Splash Planet or Cordelia Swimming Pool to cool off. Both are operating by Charlotte Parks and Recreation. Don't forget the sunscreen and hats.

2. Head to a free splash pad.
Latta Park in Dilworth and Veteran's Park near Plaza Midwood each have great splash pads, plus four others throughout Mecklenburg County. Check out these other spraygrounds in the area.

3. Go inside.
When the sun and heat is just too much, check out a local museum. Discovery Place is great for a cool science adventure. Discovery Place Kids in Huntersville has lots of great story times and the indoor play gym for preschoolers. And if you haven't ventured to the Schiele Museum in Gastonia, what are waiting for. The planetarium is dark, cool and star-filled.

4. See a movie.
"Jurassic World" is out for those who are nostalgic for "Jurassic Park." For families with younger children, check out "Inside Out" opening this Friday, June 19.

5. Go Bowl FOR FREE!
Sign up for the Kids Bowl Free program and then head to 10 Park Lanes in Charlotte for a cool afternoon of fun knocking down pins. You can also get a family pass that saves money for the adults who want to also play.
