Charlotte Parent Kids Art Contest Rules
In an effort to successfully execute the art contest, the following responsibilities have been outlined and assigned:
Purpose of Rules:
These rules, set forth, will govern the Charlotte Parent Kids Art Contest as a means of collecting artwork that may be temporarily displayed and not returned to the artist. Artists will be asked to draw a picture that reflects this year's theme, "A World of Color."
Contest Deadlines:
The contest will officially begin on January 1, 2012. All artists submitting an entry must deliver finished work to designated drop off location (see below) no later than Wednesday, February 15, 2012 by 4:30 p.m. Entries may be received anytime after January 1, 2012, but must be received or postmarked by February 15, 2012.

Contest Eligibility:
All North Carolina and South Carolina residents who are in grades K-12 residing in Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, York and Union counties are eligible to submit an entry. Children of Charlotte Parent magazine and Carolina Asthma and Allergy and any other entities identified as partners or sponsors during the contest are not eligible to win, but may submit an entry for display.
Criteria for Judging:
Entries will be judged according to grade category. Grade categories are as follows:
Grades K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-8, 9-12
Entries will be judged on the following three criteria:
1. Originality
2. Artistic composition
3. Content appropriateness for intended viewer
Technical requirements for design or entry:
Paper to be no smaller than 8" x 10", no larger than 9 x 12". Composition may be vertical or horizontal orientation. Artists may use any colorful medium that includes markers, paint, pastels, colored pencils, crayon, digital art or photography. Final piece of artwork must be two-dimensional and appropriate for mounting. Sculptural or three-dimensional pieces will not be eligible. All entries must be submitted with a Kids Art Contest Form (online submission) and a title page (copy of online form or typed/handwritten page containing, Artists Name, Art Title, Address, Telephone, Email (for notification only) and Grade Category.
Please do not mount or frame artwork. Artwork that is mounted or framed will be disqualified.
Restrictions on subject matter of entry:
The artwork must depict images appropriate for children to view. The design must be the contestant's own original creation and may not be copied, traced, or duplicated from previously published art, including photographs. Submissions must have been completed within the past year. One submission per child. Submissions may not be photocopies of the original artwork.
Selection and ownership of contest entries:
All entries selected to be displayed will become the property of Charlotte Parent magazine. Therefore, artwork will not be returned to the artist.
