Father's Day - Fun Ideas, Contests and Crafts for Dad's Big Day

Father's Day is just around the corner and we want to celebrate Charlotte area Dads! This year, we're hoping to help you show that special dad in your life just how important he is to you. From gift ideas to things to do with dad on father's day, we've got tons of ideas. And while you're here, check out Par for Pop - 5 Ideas for Father's Day. And read about one of Charlotte's top Dads - Coach John Fox of the Carolina Panthers. You may find he's experiencing the same everyday challenges all parents face.

In our Dads on Fatherhood contest we're honoring all area dads, whether you're from Concord, Ballantyne, Rock Hill, Hunterville, Fort Mill, Matthews, Gastonia or anywhere around Charlotte. Send us your story about what being a Dad means to you. Or e-mail us your photo with your kids and we'll display it on the Web site.

Local Dads share their stories...

My name is Richard Bolen and I became a father for the first time on April 9th. Nicholas was born at 9:23 in the morning and the second I laid eyes on him in the delivery room I was overwhelmed with emotion. All my fears of becoming a father were immediately washed away. From then on my new name is Dad and I knew that I was ready for the challenges that come with fatherhood. It was the proudest day of my life and I am thankful that we have a healthy and happy son.

Being a Dad...there's no words to explain. I have three sons, and the best part of the day is when I get to spend time with them. There is lots of personality in my home and there is never a dull moment, but that's the best part. Hopefully they will not grow too fast. If I could savor these moments, but all I have are my precious memories that I continue to add on every day!

Happy Father's Day to all you Dads.

Being a dad to me are moments like seeing my son Jacob dressing up in a button up shirt and pants and working in his "office" because he wants to be like me.

I have two daughters that I love with all my heart! I let them put "toy" curlers in my hair. I definitely wouldn't do that for anyone but them!

So many smiles and too many things to choose from but when I walk in the door from work and they all come running to see me, that is the best feeling in the world. They can make a bad day disappear!

Being a dad has brought me patience I thought I would never have, love more intense than any I have felt before, and the desire to be the best person I can be. I am a better person because I am a father. That's why I love being a father because it has made me a better person because I want to be a father my children love and can respect.                                                   John, Charlotte

My girls are 5 and 8 years old. They are my life. What did my wife and I do for the 13 years before babies? Sleep Sleep Sleep!!!

Anniston (8) and Kristin (5) are older now, and I see how quickly they change and grow. Enjoy them now, soon they won’t want us around. I took them the other night to have a manicure!! I’ve never been in one of those places. My 8 year old had to tell them what she wanted. She was very nice to me with a $3 painting only. She could have had the $20-30 deal before I knew what was happening.

Enjoy these little moments when you can.

Ralph, Lincolnton

Fox on Fatherhood: An Interview with Carolina Panthers coach John Fox
Written by: Eve White

“Being a coach — and a dad — is a lot like being a teacher,” Coach Fox explains, when asked to compare coaching and fatherhood. “In the NFL, I’m often in charge of other people’s kids. And even if you think you know the ‘Do’s and Don’ts of Parenthood,’ things don’t always work out like you planned.”
