Train to Christmas Town Returns to Gastonia
The Train to Christmas Town starts departures Nov. 26 through Dec. 23.
Tap into holiday nostalgia with a ride on the The Train to Christmas Town. In it's second year pulling out of the Piedmont and Northern Railway depot in Gastonia, North Carolina, The Train to Christmas Town brings the heartwarming story "The Train to Christmas Town" to life in a one-hour round-trip journey to (mythical) Christmas Town (not to be confused with Christmas Town USA in McAdenville).
For those unfamiliar, the story is a journey of Janice and her brother and their ride to Christmas Town for the first time alone. Their grandmother can't make the trip and they miss her very much, but on the train ride they share seats with friends and woodland animals, meet elves serving cocoa and cookies and stop to welcome aboard a very special passenger, Santa Claus. This story highlights the power of family tradition, friendship and the magic of Christmas.
Just like the book, train passengers are welcomed by the conductor and invited to board festively-dressed train cars, where they sip hot cocoa and nibble on cookies. While enjoying treats, they can listen to a reading of “The Train To Christmas Town” read aloud by the voice of author Peggy Ellis. Story characters Bumblebee the Polar Bear and Wabash the Squirrel also join guests on the journey, plus there are Christmas carol singalongs and a few surprises.
Midway through the journey, Santa climbs onboard and greets every child with holiday cheer, presenting each with a special Christmas gift. The return trip is filled with more carols, photo opportunities with Santa, dancing elves and unforgettable memories. Families are encouraged to wear their pajamas for the ride.
The journey departs select dates Dec. 9-Dec. 23 with departure times at 1:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on select days. See the website for a complete schedule. Ticket prices begin at $29 for a child and $39 per adult.
