Charlotte Parent Brings Home Gold at National Awards Competition
Charlotte Parent magazine won a gold award and two silver awards at the Parenting Media Association's 2018 Editorial and Design Competition. Parenting Media Association, a nonprofit representing the family media market since 1988, received 560 entries for 2017 magazines issues and digital products. Professor Reuben Stern of the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism oversaw the judging.
"From concept to publication, it's the collaboration of ideas, editing, writing and design that all play together to make Charlotte Parent magazine an award-winning publication," says Michele Huggins, editor of Charlotte Parent. "We always have readers top of mind and strive to deliver content in print, online and through our social media that is helpful, relatable and entertaining for Charlotte-area parents."
Charlotte Parent competed against other parenting publications across the U.S., Canada and Australia, including Atlanta Parent, Austin Parent, Baltimore Child and Nashville Parent, in the 25,001-44,999 distribution category. This year's winners are:
Gold Award: Front Cover

Judges' Comments: "This sophisticated cover combines strong typographic treatment with a sweet, funny portrait. The giggle feels genuine, a rare find in a stock photograph. The child looks comfortable, with the tilted hat about to fall off her head. The subject seems ready to have a fall-tastic adventure."
Silver Award: Travel Feature

Judges' Comments: "This package offers practical insights from a professional for dealing with uncomfortable situations that a lot of moms are likely to encounter. The format of having each specific scenario followed by related suggestions makes the material even more useful."
