Celebrate Memorial Day at Mint Hill Madness

Saturday’s fun kicks off in the heart of downtown Mint Hill with the Mint Hill Madness 5K followed by the parade at 10 a.m. The all-American parade features classic cars, floats from more than 50 local businesses and organizations, entertainers and music groups marching through the intersection of Matthews-Mint Hill Road and Lawyers Road.
The fun continues at Mint Hill Veterans Memorial Park. The official festival opening starts off with a flag-raising ceremony followed by a new event: The Battle at Mint Hill. Four person teams compete at the tennis courts performing three cross-fit-like workouts to see who is the fittest. At noon, the NFL Punt Pass and Kick Competition begins on the lower soccer field. Children ages 6-15 can join in on the fun and learn basic football fundamentals. It wouldn’t be a festival without loads of carnival rides and family-friendly activities. Hop inside the bouncy house, ride around in bumper carts and go-kart race. Try out the carnival food and explore the park grounds for more family fun.
Main stage entertainment begins at 2:30 p.m. The kids may enjoy the Pan Jive Steel Drum Band that focuses on high-energy tunes played on steel drums from Trinidad. Later on in the evening head on over to the soccer fields for the end of Saturday’s festivities that features fireworks and classic patriotic music. Sunday’s fun begins with a weight-lifting competition and more live music.
Mint Hill Memorial Veterans Park is located at 8850 Fairview Road, Mint Hill. The festival is on Saturday from 8:30 a.m.- 11 p.m. and on Sunday from noon-6 p.m. For more information about the parade, carnival games, music line-ups and the 5K race, visit minthillmadnessfestival.org.
